Biophotonics and Biomedical Optics Research Group (GIBIO) was founded in 2023 with the advice of the Dr. Fernando Zvietcovich. GIBIO is a multidisciplinary team made up of undergraduate/graduate students and professors related to applied physics and biomedical, electrical, and mechatronics engineering. We have the advice and collaboration of foreign and national researchers and companies. We have been officially recognized in 2024 as a PUCP research group.
Currently, we are located in the Laboratory of Medical Engineering (LIMED) which is associated with the academic department of engineering at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). The research activities of the laboratory, under the direction of Dr. Fernando Zvietcovich, are focused on the development of new techniques and methods for medical imaging and measurement of structural tissue biomechanics. Thus, we can build biomedical equipments that allows the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The research activities are currently supported by PROCIENCIA, OPTICA and WELLCOME TRUST.
Our mission is to upgrade modern medicine through the use of cutting edge optical techniques. We strongly believe that through biophotonics, we can offer new perspectives and tools that enable more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatments, thus improving people's quality of life.
